BISHOP ANNOUNCES $62,939 FIRE GRANT FOR MEDFORD FIRE DISTRICT
On Feb. 5, Congressman Tim Bishop announced that a $62,939 fire grant has been awarded to the Medford Fire District from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The grant will be used to update the district’s radio equipment.
“Firefighters have always put their lives on the line to protect our communities and it is vital that the district have reliable technology in order to communicate,” said Bishop. “I congratulate the Medford Fire District for their grant and I am pleased that the grant workshops I host each year helped give the department the information they needed to secure critical funding.”
Representatives from the Medford Fire District have attended Bishop’s regular grant workshops with DHS personnel and local first responders, which give Long Island fire departments the tools they need to write successful grant applications.
Nationally, the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program will provide approximately $510 million to fire departments and emergency medical service organizations. It is a competitive process, with departments across the nation submitting several billion dollars worth of requests. More information is available at http://www.firegrantsupport.com.
