Law Enforcement Overview
Law Enforcement on Long Island
Long Island, according to Forbes, has the best crime rate in the country at 2042 crimes per 100,000 residents. Suffolk County also in the recent months pulled all of their county officers off of Sunrise Highway and the Long Island Expressway. This was because those roads are owned and operated by the State and it is the State’s job to patrol those roads. Those County officers were also costing the County an enormous amount of money. Though the State did not provide any patrol officers for the roads the Town Sheriffs agreed to patrol the roads. Long Island county police officers get paid the highest salaries compared to any other county in New York and most counties in the United States. There is believed to be rampant corruption throughout the police departments.
