Parks & Recreation on Long Island

Long Island has about 20 state parks and historic sites attracting around 20 million visitors annually. They are spread through out Long Island. Jones Beach is one of the most visited of these parks. Many of the Long Island Parks try to conserve the beauty and wildlife of Long Island. These parks are also used by everyone from hunters to nature lovers to environmentalist. Many believe the parks are a waste of space, and should be used instead to create affordable housing and commercial center.

Levy Urges NY Officials to Keep Parks Open via Private Partnerships - February 22, 2010

Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy is urging New York officials to enlist the private sector to ensure that proposed closures of state parks are averted so that residents can enjoy the full benefits of all state parks facilities.
