Levy: More than 100 Volunteers to Clean Up Graffiti in Brentwood and Central Islip

Hauppauge, NY –Suffolk Executive Steve Levy’s program to address concerns about gangs in the Brentwood and Central Islip communities will take another step forward tomorrow when the Third Precinct’s new Graffiti Suppression Coordinator, along with members from Brentwood Residents Against Violence Everyday (BRAVE), conduct a graffiti clean-up day.

“Suffolk County, along with the residents and businesses in these communities, is sending a message that vandalism will not be tolerated,” said Levy. “We thank everyone for joining together in this fight, and we appreciate the significant contribution that is being made by so many volunteers.”

The clean-up effort is being coordinated by Suffolk police officer Nancy Quattrociocchi, the Graffiti Suppression Coordinator, along with members of BRAVE. The contingent received an overwhelming response while seeking out participants for the project, which focuses on improving the quality of life issue for local residents. More than 100 volunteers from across the region are uniting to remove graffiti at dozens of locations.

Volunteers from Boy Scout Troop 371, American Red Cross, the Suffolk Community Council, Police Explorers, Suffolk County Community College, the Bay Shore Muslim Center of Long Island, and the Town of Islip will be participating. The Town of Islip will also be unveiling a state-of-the-art graffiti removal vehicle that was recently purchased.

The clean up initiative is open to the public. Anyone interested in participating is welcomed to meet at the Brentwood Recreation Center, located at 3rd Avenue and 1st Street in Brentwood, at 9 a.m.
